Job Description

In early 2008 Empirisoft was contracted to support the new Council during the amalgamation of the former Cairns Regional Council and Douglas Shire Council. This amalgamation required the merger of the existing websites into a new replacement entity from day one of the new Council.

Empirisoft Staff in liaison with the Information Systems Staff were responsible for this amalgamation process, and for the construction of the new site. The original design templates for the new site were produced by InsideOut Media.

The project was a firm success and the merged website allowed residents of the new council to have authoritative information available from day one at the new web resource.

Work Completed

• Develop and implement custom 'middleware' software solution to secure content from the Douglas Shire Website. This was necessitated by a lack of back-end access to DSC web resources.
• Profile and combine web content from both site sources into a single unified Information Architecture. The combined website consists of over a thousand web pages.
• Provide liaison and advise to Council Staff regarding technical requirements, design goals and web standards for the new website.

Outcome

• Unified website available from day one of the merged Councils.
• Council Staff not required to manually translate the 1000+ pages into the new website.
